I will be 66 years old in March, 2011. My wife will be 65 in November, 2011.
I began early SS in August 2009 but can't get along on retirement income so I still work. My wife works full time.
I have health insurance thru my employer; employee for me and dependent for my wife. My wife's employer does not offer health insurance.
I enrolled in Medicare before my 65th birthday as I was instructed in an avalanche of letters I received. SS began withholding Medicare A & B premiums from my benefit check.
Last month my Aetna monthly premium jumped from $866 per month to $1102 per month.
My plan is to keep Aetna until my wife is 65 in November, then drop it and get Supplement J for approx. $260 per month for each of us.
My question is: will I have any trouble signing each of us up for supplemental insurance in November?
I suppose that since my 65th birthday was near my insurance company requested a profile update so I called them. I told them that I was enrolled in Medicare but I must keep my insurance because my wife is not yet 65. I was told that I should not have enrolled in Medicare since my insurance remained in full force. The monthly premium I pay for Medicare is wasted since my own insurance remains Primary and Medicare is Secondary.
